  When I left the witnesses, I thought a lot about the ransom sacrifice. Jesus himself said that the greatest love that can be shown is to give your life for another. That meant to me that if God came down to earth and sacrificed his life for us, he would be showing that ultimate love.

  It means a lot more to me that God would become like us and suffer the trials and death of a human to release us from death than if he would require that from someone else. It is the ultimate sacrifice and expression of humility. It touches a responsive chord in me.

  although this is my first post under the name journey edge, i have been a member of the board for a few years now.

  i just needed to change my identity to avoid being traced.

  i left the truth a number of years ago after 20 years in the faith.

  It is hard to help a person who is depressed and just won't accept help. Living with someone like that is exhausting. You mention suicide. Certainly any solution is better than that, whether it be leaving or not.

  Can you go to counseling? Even if your husband won't go, maybe you can learn how to deal with the situation. Your children are your number one priority. Are they being affected badly?

  I have dealt with a person who is angry and depressed, but won't try to get any help. It isn't easy and I feel for you. Sometimes we have to learn how to not enable their behavior. That is where counseling might help. I wish you better days.

  On the futility of everything

  once again i'm in a philosophical mood: .

  we spend our time in avoiding death as though the absence of being was our primary reason or motivator and yet our mere existence is clearly not fulfilling in and of itself (for a nightmare example ask yourself- would you rather die or live in a fully conscious state but be totally paralysed and unable to communicate.

  if existence alone is not enough yet we will give almost anything to continue to exist what is it that we are actually aiming for?

  I would say we are driven and comforted by both the novel and the persistent. The sunset is both. It is really amazing that the rhythyms of life, sunrise and sunset, the seasons, etc. can be both. It satisfies our need for consistency and change at the same time.

  Is there futility in life? Absolutely, but it's all we know right now. I really enjoyed your thoughts. You write so well.

  Jethro Tull - Your Favorite Songs and Albums from this Group ?

  growing up, jethro tull was one of my favorite groups as they had a great mix of rock , celtic mix , and great guitar from martin barre and ian anderson on flute was arguably one of the greatest flute players in rock n' roll .

  as an interesting side note : my wifes 15 minutes claim to fame was when her ex-husband and her in the 1980's sold fish to markets , her ex-husband called ian anderson on the phone to see how he did salmon farming and talk about the fish business.

  weird, huh?

  What Did The Witnesses and Christian Science Have In Common ?

  i bought a book entitled "miscellaneous writings 1883-1896" by mary baker eddy.. i was surprised to see the "cross and crown" logo on the cover.. .

  it is almost identical to the logo that the watchtower used in the early days :.

  i didn't realise that this was a common christian symbol in use at the time, i just thought i'd share it.. .

  A lot of the things the watchtower used and did have to be seen in the light of the times they were produced. They are not so very different from the world as they like to think.

  Hello, I'm new...

  i just joined this forum today after reading the comments on today's watchtower (which i have to attend in about an hour unfortunately).

  i was raised in "the truth" and it was only recently that i began to listen to a close friend of mine as he pointed out the secrets and lies that is the watchtower society and governing body.

  even though he was informing me for almost a year, he never gave up on me.

  You have to give credit to Ian Anderson to be able to front a rock band with a flute. I saw him in the 70's in a very small, intimate venue. It was a great show! I like most of his music, but a few favorites are:

  Today I got diagnosed with PTSD... I thought only people that went to war

  anyways, my husband and i talked and i said that i can't take the anxiety of going to the meetings anymore, so either i'm not going or i'm bringing and ipod or something... he's very supportive.

  he felt bad about pushing me to do it.

  When you begin to question, the meetings become unbearable. I used to have extreme anxiety from listening to their constant messages of doom and gloom. That is enough to cause PTSD. I joined that religion because my husband wanted me to, as I guess you did too.

  Before I left, I used to read the Bible at the meetings as a way to block out their thoughts. It still became way too much. Glad you're getting help and your husband is being more understanding.

  i was under the impression that the witnesses didn't have any belief in an earthly class until 1935-ish.. and yet in 1925 (?

  ) they built beth sarim in san diego to house the faithful men of old when they returned to earth.
